How Can I Help?
If you already know what you need, don't worry about the menu below (other than for entertainment purposes). Just get in touch and let's talk about your project!
If you're wondering who the heck I am and why you should even bother reading this Menu, see About Me.
Otherwise, check out the menu, which is intended to give you a sense of some of the things I do, how I do it, and how I might be able to help you.

The Traditional Stuff
Edits & Reworks
Something Made Better
Fresh Eyes
Light edits, but thorough review for inconsistencies, basic tone, and issues of substantial concern (legal, factual, political, etc.).
Fresh Perspective
More than that. Less than this.
Hard Truth with a Side of Bloody Edits
For those of hearty ego who are willing to let me vastly improve (or even completely reimagine) their work product. Perfect for polishing a rough draft to a glossy sheen. I'm not gonna lie: This is a house specialty, and I'm damn good at it.
Research & Analysis
Something Discovered
/ Something Explored
Surface-Scratching
Answers to basic research questions, or "quick takes" at the last minute.
Drill Down
More complex questions and/or more thorough research.
Lay It ALL on Me
Meaty, detailed, and/or exhaustive research.
Sounding Board
Stuck in the weeds? If you're like me, sometimes you just need a fresh perspective or someone to drop some "stupid" questions from a 30,000-foot view just to back you out of your rabbit hole.
Some people are lucky enough to have an awesome partner or associate they can use as a sounding board. I'm here for the rest of you—whether you're a solo practitioner or you're just tired of talking to the same damn people all the time.
I'll help you develop your best ideas and get rid of your worst—whether we're talking legal theory, case theory, media strategy, or litigation strategy.*

Pleadings*
Notice Pleading
Just the facts, please, ma’am.
Standard Pleading
The facts, but more detailed and structured.
Narrative Pleading
Tell a story. Frame your client’s case for the Court, the media, and/or the public. Make people feel things.
Briefs*
The Brief Brief
5-10 pages on a discrete issue. Geared for a busy trial judge or magistrate.
Basic Brief
More than that. Less than this.
The Works
Five-course, ready-to-file complex briefing (often a dispositive or appellate brief).
Memoranda / Proposals
Quick & Dirty
Key information delivered in no-frills, bite-sized bullet points.
Standard
More than that. Less than this.
Sharpshooter
Robust, cogent, and professional, as well as sharply presented. The kind of thing you want to slide smugly across a conference table at opposing counsel during mediation—or at a client during a pitch.
The Geeky Stuff
e-Discovery Consulting*
Something Explained
ESI Protocols
Help negotiating protocols for the production of Electronically Stored Information (ESI) if you don't happen to be fluent in Geek.
Written Discovery
Help crafting and negotiating discovery requests or responses involving ESI-related materials, whether it's a draft text document or a proprietary software program.
Expert Wrangling & Technical Writing
I'm not a technical expert. But I have a knack for dealing with experts (from engineers to economists), and for translating technical jargon into language that normal people (and even lawyers) can understand.

Design & Trial Graphics
Something MADE (with images)
It's not every day you find a Yale Law graduate who also happens to have graphic design skills, but I promise you: it can be a potent combination when it comes to conveying legal or factual concepts to key decision-makers. Let me help you brainstorm ways to make your point in a way that's not just well-reasoned, but visually compelling.
Trial / Hearing Demonstratives
From simple graphic timelines to visualized analogies, a picture is worth 1,000 words—and possibly a whole lot of money.
The judge and/or jury will thank you for giving them something to look at other than your face, and you get to use a laser pointer (not included).
Presentations
Pitch to a potential client or help a key witness prep for testimony with visual aids.

* My legal consulting is generally limited to lawyers and law firms. I also work with non-lawyers, but only on NON-legal projects (e.g., editing, copywriting, graphic design). I will NOT give you legal advice or edit/draft legal documents for you if you are not a licensed attorney. And regardless of what services I provide, I will not be acting as YOUR lawyer unless we have an explicit written agreement of representation. (That said, I also have to tell you that I am only licensed to practice law in California, New Mexico, North Carolina, and the District of Columbia.)
